MacIntosh House

Osoyoos, 2023

This mountaintop house is designed for all that nature can throw at it. Metal siding and roofs resist wildfire. Ample overhangs counter extreme heat. The courtyard layout creates shelter from high winds. But it’s not just about adapting to climate change. It also takes active steps to eliminate the causes of extreme weather. Heating and cooling are electric, and supplemented by rooftop solar that takes energy use to net-zero. Locally sourced wood is used for wall and roof structure, sequestering carbon in the assembly. And the wood is continued inside, where wood windows and slatted wood ceilings add visual warmth. A robust shell with a soft heart.
