Peña House

The owner of this property in downtown Kelowna was repeatedly told he had to cut down his 200 year old oak tree if he wanted to add to his house. Since he liked the tree better than the house, this was not acceptable. Finally his arbourist suggested he call some architects in Penticton who seemed to like building around trees. Our solution was a “floating” lightweight structure resting on just 4 steel piles, with air circulating below the building. The roots can breathe, all rainwater is directed to the tree, and the owners get to live in a “tree house”.
