Little Paws Children's Centre Wins Commercial Building Award

Landform Architecture received a Thompson Okanagan Commercial Building Award for the Little Paws Daycare, owned and operated by the Snpink’tn Indian Band. This new 8,600 ft2 childcare centre replaces an outdated building on Westhill Crescent. It incorporates 5 childcare rooms, with a total capacity of 123 spaces. The new building supports the Band’s commitment to providing families with quality, affordable and accessible childcare. The building is on one level, with wheelchair and stroller access to all spaces, and automatic opening doors. A story pole at the entrance to the building welcome visitors, while large windows and doors connect all the childcare rooms directly to enclosed outdoor spaces and the natural grassland beyond.

While the building meets the needs of the community, it is also designed to be eco-friendly and create no carbon emissions. A super-insulated building envelope, triple glazed windows, and high efficiency electric heating system provide a comfortable interior environment in all seasons. In summer, high-level windows open automatically to provide natural ventilation. In winter, south facing windows allow the sun to heat the space. Solar panels on the south facing roof, create energy self sufficiency.
